MARTINE ROSE - INTRODUCING NEW BRAND
Hailed as one of the fashion capitals of the world, London is a fertile ground for young creatives due to the unique miscegenation of cultures and underground movements. The British capital is home to some of the leading menswear designers of the last decade, many of which have graced our store, and our newest brand carries on the tradition: Martine Rose.
Having graduated from Middlesex University in 2002, the British designer went on to create her first label LMNOP soon after. The project ended in 2005 but paved the way to the brand we know today. Starting from scratch with a 1500£ loan from Prince’s Trust, Martine created her eponymous label focusing on men’s shirts which debuted a 10-piece collection in 2007. Growing up in South London during the 90s, Martine has heavily inspired by the way different communities come together, incorporating somewhat of a sociological component to her design process.
Her distinct interpretation of contemporary (sub)cultures and movements such as Rave and S&M, allowed to create one of the most critically acclaimed menswear labels in recent memory, having won the British Fashion Council’s NEWGEN award in 2014 and a nomination for the ANDAM award in 2017. Her trademark mix of tailoring and streetwear has led to global recognition among enthusiasts and celebrities alike and is now coming to Wrong Weather.
For AW21, the designer explored soccer culture and how it mixed with club culture to deliver a Wide Boy aesthetic that immediately recognizable. A mix of attraction and fear with a pinch of kinkiness, materialized through full-red-leather looks and cowboy-inspired denim and leather bottoms. Tailoring remains one of the highlights of the collection, with boxy silhouettes layered with neon mock necks, track jackets and square toe boots.
The first pieces of Martine Rose AW21 collection will be arriving at Wrong Weather soon.
