This time, Porto's premier space for men's high fashion brings us PortoNow, a celebration of the Invicta's cultural zeitgeist and creative effervescence, highlighting some of the most exciting art, fashion, and music projects in the city.
A celebration of the visual arts at Wrong Weather's gallery space, with a collective exhibition by portuense artists Killa Was Here, Pedro Podre and RUÍDO (a duo formed by CONTRA and DRAW).
Meet the artists:
Ruído is a creative project joining that interweaves Draw’s monochromatic, figurative and profoundly human universe, with Contra’s colourful, abstract, geometric and textural approach, leading to compositions that cement a strong impact on their space and environment, while also creating multifaceted connections with the viewer. As a project, Ruído represents the culmination of this relationship, this balance between the organic human form and an abstract and textual intervention, which not only uses space as inspiration, but has its transformation as an objective, creating a constructive interference with its surroundings by altering the perception of those who inhabit it.
Pedro Podre is an illustrator and visual artist based in Porto.
His figurative painting explore narratives about childhood, escapism, identity and the anxieties of the 21st century .
His work appropriates the narrative logic of illustrations, cartoons and comics aestethic, presenting us with tragicomic allegories about the suburban life, fears and uncertain ties in this era of information overload.
Killa a Was Here is a portuguese artist born in the city of Porto. Having introduced himself in the art world, he started producing and exhibiting in his home town and is now starting the internationalisation of his work.
Killa Was Here is a direct reflection of the artist’s livings, focusing most of his work around themes such as love and death. Each painting tells a story about the artist, he's personal life, or some external factor that has somehow touched and inspired the artist. Killa also enjoys to balance his art with some of the modern social questions such as sexual harassment, a theme that was much explored in the first year of he's career.
